Google Ads NEW Image Extensions (Everything You Need To Know)

google ads image extensions how to set

them up what they are
best practices how to get access to them
In this video let's jump right in
so the first thing is what is a
google ad image extension it's a newer
extension that google has added
that is exactly what it sounds like it
shows an image on your search ads so
this is different from a shopping ad
but on a search ad, it actually shows up
right here and predominantly on mobile
and um uh I think it's geared more
towards e-commerce but this can you can
do this for any kind of
business for b2b
for local service businesses whatever it
maybe but this is what they look like
it's just a little image that shows up
on top of your ad so it can take up more
um space on the top of the search
results page so something you want to
add and test
in your account so that's what it is as
far as requirements I know that a lot of
people still
are getting access to them they're still
rolling this out slowly
as I look across my accounts uh about
half of them have access to it
here are the requirements that you do
need to have in order to get access and
then eventually this will come to you
but
you need a good history of policy
compliance a google ads account that is
an eligible vertical or sub-vertical so
sensitive verticals
you know your typical ones like um uh
drugs
alcohol gambling things like that um you
won't be able to have image extensions
and then you need to have google ads
an account that has been open for more than
90 days
so those are the requirements on what
you need to actually get access to this
and now I'm going to show you how to
set up the actual google ads image ad
extension
what is the difference between the regular
image extensions are the dynamic image
extensions are
and then some of the best practices and
things you need to keep in mind and here
we are
inside of the google account and what we
need to do first
is identify the campaign that we want to
add these extensions to
so uh for the campaign I'm going to
select one right here and then obviously
we're going to go to
extensions click in extensions and then
you can either click this little blue
plus right here
and you'll see it'll come up with an image
extensions right here
or you can scroll down until you see
image extensions
over here as well and I'm going to move
myself slightly
and you'll notice that there are images
and then there are dynamic images so
right now I'm going to show you how to
set up the image the regular image once
and then show you how to set up the
dynamic one so
when we come in here we hit create
and this is a pretty straightforward
the process really honestly very
straightforward process so
essentially what we do is we come in
here and we get images and
it's going to ask for us to either
upload an image scan our website use
some recent ones or some of our assets
and we're going to come over here to
recently and we're going to select
this image is right here and we want to
make sure that we get this ratio so the
the
1 by 9 one by one hit that right there
and then we also want to get the
another ratio which is one by one so
we're going to select both of those
and then we're going to hit save once i
move out of the way
and sorry for all the blurring out here
do you want to make sure that uh
this is a live account so um a few
things are blurred out but the most
essential things are showing so as you
can see here once we have this added
it's going to give you a preview of what
that looks like
um which is really nice so you the know-how
you have this nice little image to go
with what you're searching for so
if I'm a consumer looking for this
specific product and I actually see the
visual what that looks like then it's
it's really
reassuring it helps me to click now as
far as the cost for these um if somebody
does click on your image it will charge
you the same amount it would if they
clicked on the headlines or whatever
maybe so I know a lot of people have
questions about that so that is how to
set up your image ad so the last thing
you do is just hit save
or save over here in this left hand
corner and call it good we're going to
hit cancel for now though
um and the next thing is the
dynamic search ad so if you come over
here
the dynamic search ads are a little bit
different um and how you opt into these
because I already am opted into this one
over here sorry as I go back and forth
and a lot of this is blurred out but as
you see the dynamic search ads when you
come down to this section right here
if you haven't already opted into those
you will see something that looks like
this
that has the dynamic search ads and then
this little button that says opt-in
and that's how you would go in and
opt-in to the dynamic search as and
essentially what that does is
Google crawls your landing pages and
pulls images from your
your relevant landing pages and does
that in an automatic fashion so
after I opted into it for this account
uh google literally went in and added
all these different images
over here now if for whatever reason you
still don't have that button or you
don't see that
you can scroll all the way down to the
account and you're going to come here to
this
automated extensions and then you're
going to click on these little three dots
i know that google really hides this
and then you're going to go to advanced
settings and then here is where you can
turn on or off of the image add
extension so as you see mine are off
right now but
if you come in here and yours are I mean
mine are on if you come in here and
yours are off you can go on and
hit on inside of there so you go through
and edit that you do that for any of the
automated extensions
in this case as well so that is the
difference between
the uh normal image extensions and the
automated ones obviously the normal ones
you have more control over the automated
ones are automated and kind of more
scalable
to a fact now just wrapping things up
let's talk about the best practices
for your image ad extension
so here are the
uh aspect ratios so one by one or one
point one nine by one
um a one by one is required uh and the
the landscape is optional but recommended so
this is directly from google and I'll
link this down below as well so you can
go check out this
on google's website, it has the file
formats the image resolution
uh it is recommended they have 1200 by
1200 and 1200 by 628
and then it has your maximum file sizes
and recommended image safe areas
so um there's a little bit about that
and then wrapping things up as best
practice is to utilize both
image extensions and dynamic image
extensions so use both at the same time
don't be afraid to only use one of the
other
and then to create the right image
extension based on your ad account
the structure now what that means is
the ad group level provides the
the strictest relevance assuming a
well-structured account
which means uh so if you do stuff at the
campaign level make sure that image will
be relevant to
all of the ad groups in that campaign if
not you're going to want to set your
image extensions at the
ad group level if it's different
products basically um the last thing is
they do recommend I thought this was
interesting they do google does
recommend adding three unique images to
the extension
probably so that they can test and
figure out which one's working better as
well I probably would have
not really thought to add up to three i
would just add one or two inside of
there and then
um implement both kinds of aspect ratios
so you saw us we did the one by one
and the 1.9 one by one as well so
uh that's a quick video on google image
ad extensions
hopefully, you found this one helpful if
you did please don't forget to subscribe
