How to Stop Competitors & Bots From Click On Your Ads (Click Fraud)

 what's up everybody it's Corbin here

from coco marketing in today's video, I'm
going to be answering one of the most
common questions I get asked
um as a when I'm helping people run
google ads and that is the question of
how do I prevent competitors from
clicking on my google ads or how to do i
prevent
bots from clicking on my ads which um
both of those two things do
exist unfortunately and it can um waste
I had spent the sad reality is it's
out there and it's real
Google has made some really good steps
forward to help prevent this from
happening
but they do not exclude 100 of those and
a lot of things
slip through the cracks and so I wanted
to create a video a full tutorial on how
you
um as a business owner or digital
the marketer can go through and
prevent bots or competitors from
clicking your ads so in this video the
The first thing I'm going to do is I'm going
to walk through how to identify if you
have a lot of bot traffic coming from
your google ads
and then the second thing I'm going to
do is walk you through some of the kind
of hacky
manual ways that you can help prevent
click fraud from happening inside of
your google ads account
and then I'm going to wrap it up at the
end by talking about the uh an
the automated way that you can you can
prevent click fraud and one of the ways
the ways that I actually recommend in
the way that I do with all my accounts
um to help prevent click fraud so let's
jump right in I'm going to show you
first how to identify if you're getting
a lot of that traffic so the first thing i
want to do is show you uh give you an
the idea on how you can check to see if your
campaigns are getting a lot of bots
traffic
so what we're going to do is we're going
to go inside of google ads you're going
to go to your campaigns
and what I want you to do comes in
here to columns and I want you to go
into modify columns and then I want you
to search for
invalid and you're going to find
something here called invalid clicks and
once you go through and add that as you
can see we have here invalid clicks
we're going to hit apply and when we
look inside of here
what this is going to do is it's going
to give you an idea of what
uh the percentage of clicks that are
going to your google ad campaigns that
Google has identified
are bots and essentially as you can see
from this campaign out of 100
so if you add these two numbers together
it gives you your actual amount of
clicks
and there were 773 that were real clicks
and then 128 that weren't valid now
these are clicks that Google doesn't
charge for you they automatically filter
those out which is awesome
but it still is not enough right um
in my experience I'm I I wish that i
could say that this covers
all of your bases but unfortunately uh
you still get a lot of competitors and a
a lot of other bots that google just
hasn't identified
clicking on those but this gives you an
the idea of what campaigns are bringing in a
a lot of that traffic
so if you come in here and you see that
there are a lot of there are a lot of
involved clicks you can
probably bet that you have a problem
with click fraud so
now that we got that out of the way on
how to identify that now how do we fix
this problem
so let's move on to that all right now
how do we actually
prevent click fraud from happening how
do we prevent competitors from seeing
our ads
and from clicking on them and ultimately
saving money now I'm going to walk you
through three different solutions the
The first two are kind of
hacky more manual process processes and
then the last one
is a fully automated solution and it's
actually the
the one that I recommend and the tool
that I use
to help prevent click fraud now the
the first option is if you come into your
campaign
as you see here I have this um demo
account here with PPC display so if we
Click inside of here
you can come into google ads and you can
scroll down and what you're looking
for is uh if you'll if you come in here
you'll probably see this little more
button
I was already dropped down from me and
you're going to come into locations
and what this allows you to do is
exclude locations and that's what we're
going to be doing essentially you want
to find the zip code or the city where
your competitor's office is located
and you want to go in and exclude that
location
from showing so let's say that my
competitor lived in Lehigh Utah
we can come in here and like okay yep we
want to exclude that now
that's a big exclusion right I'm there
possibly potential customers that i
might be losing in that area so
if you do know the zip code I do
recommend going that granular now the
cons of this are obviously you'd miss out
on people that live in that area they
won't see your ad
the pros are chances are if they're in
that area then they're not going
your competitors won't see your ads and
therefore they can't click so this is
kind of
a hacky way to prevent your competitors
from clicking on those ads um but
there's a little bit of giving and take
inside of there
now the second way that you can do is if
you're inside the campaign you can
